Currency of Practice

Please consider the following before applying to the NNAS.

When applying to the CLPNS as an IEN, your currency of practice is reviewed to determine whether you meet CLPNS requirements.

Have you?

  • Worked at least 1125 nursing hours during the previous five (5) years
    OR
  • Worked at least 450 nursing hours during the previous two (2) years

Please note:

Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) hours, volunteer hours, or similar experience do not count towards your currency of practice hours. However, nursing hours worked outside of Saskatchewan or Canada as a licensed or registered nurse may be considered.

If you’re unsure whether you meet the requirements, please contact registration@clpns.com.

Once you submit the application, CLPNS will review your information. Following a successful review of the above, the CLPNS will conduct an assessment, evaluating your NNAS Advisory Report against the Practical Nursing educational requirements from across Canada and the legislative requirements for licensure within Saskatchewan.  If CLPNS is satisfied with the assessment, remedial education will be recommended, and applicants are notified of such via email.  The CLPNS notifies applicants of further steps once all recommended remedial education is completed.
