Professional Conduct FAQ

Can I submit a complaint anonymously?

The CLPNS cannot guarantee anonymity in the complaints process. If you have a concern about your name being shared with the person named in the complaint, contact the CLPNS to discuss. For any questions related to the complaint submission process or for any assistance needed, please contact a member of the Professional Conduct Department at complaints@clpns.com or call 306-500-1979.

Why does the LPN receive a copy of the complaint I sent you to review?

The CLPNS is guided by the principles of administrative justice, two of which are “the right to be informed” and “the right to respond to the allegations.”

How long will it take for you to make a decision on the complaint?

The growing complexity of complaints leads to more complicated investigations, making it challenging to resolve complaints in under six months. Simpler and non-complex complaints are usually handled within this time frame. However, more complex cases that involve multiple practice issues, complicated conduct matters, or concerns about fitness to practice often take longer to resolve.

How long does the investigation take?

An initial review is usually completed within three months. Complex cases may take a year or more to resolve.

What if I disagree with the decision of the Counselling & Investigation Committee?

We understand that there will be times when individuals disagree with a decision of the C&I Committee. The CLPNS welcomes your feedback about your experience in the complaint review process and suggestions to improve the process. However, The LPN Act does not provide a right to appeal decisions of the C&I Committee. Therefore these decisions cannot be appealed.  Like all statutory decision-makers, decisions of the C&I Committee could be subject to Judicial Review by the Court of King’s Bench.
