Registration
The CLPNS is the second-largest health regulator in Saskatchewan, and we have over 4000 active members. When you reflect on our high member numbers, it is reasonable to assume that some of our members might have engaged in conduct or activities that could be considered unprofessional. No profession, including those responsible for upholding our laws, are immune from having members who make poor decisions during their practice or “after hours.”
Whether the past licensure renewal was your 1st or 15th, you will recall answering an important declaration about whether you were charged or convicted of a criminal offense within the last 12 months or since the date of your last CLPNS renewal. The declaration assists the CLPNS with determining suitability to practice safely and ethically and is directly related to our public-serving mandate.

|
|
Declaring that you were charged or convicted of a criminal offense does not necessarily mean you will not meet the SALPN’s renewal requirements or be denied licensure. However, it does mean that the CLPNS is obligated to complete an assessment of your circumstances. The assessment means you will have additional requirements you must fulfill, which may cause:
- Delayed approval of your license
- Late fees
- Ineligibility to practice as an LPN and collect income
- Re-licensure requirements
You might be asking yourself why this is important information so early in the New Year. The answer is simple…the earlier the CLPNS is aware of your situation, the earlier we can provide you information about what is required, and the more time you have to compile the necessary paperwork/documents required for our assessment.
Do you have a criminal charge or conviction to report? Email cbrewster@clpns.com

Counselling & Investigation Committee
The Counselling & Investigation Committee received 82 complaints in 2021. Six of these 82 cases were referred to the Discipline Committee for a hearing.
The Counselling & Investigation Committee wishes to remind LPNs to ensure their practice aligns with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. During this challenging time of COVID-19, ensure you maintain the mental and physical wellness required to meet the responsibilities of your individual roles.
Remember, as an LPN in Saskatchewan, you not only have a responsibility to the profession, to your colleagues, and the clients and public you serve but, you also have a responsibility to yourself!
