The Role of Practitioners in Indigenous Wellness

LPNs are accountable to practice in a culturally safe manner respective of diversity, equity and inclusion.

The University of Saskatchewan offers a course called “The Role of Practitioners in Indigenous Wellness.”  The course cost is $300, and the CLPNS wants to reimburse ten (10) members for their registration fees once they provide proof of completion.

The education is an online self-directed course that you can complete at your own pace within the twelve-week session. Sessions begin October 17, 2022.

With your participation in the course, you will learn to:

  • Identify how your background and culture influences both your health care experiences and the care you provide.
  • Explore how ‘cultural genocide’ led to intergenerational trauma that impacts  the health and wellness of Indigenous peoples.
  • Identify how the current health disparities and institutional experiences  including racism faced by Indigenous peoples have their roots in historical  colonialism and policy.
  • Explain how reclaiming Indigenous culture and beliefs may allow for healing
  • Identify ways you can enhance your practice to ensure culturally responsive,  anti-oppressive and anti-racist care for Indigenous Peoples.
  • Develop communication strategies that promote culturally responsive health care for Indigenous Peoples in your area of practice.

By random draw, the CLPNS will select ten (10) LPNs.

If selected and for reimbursement, you must provide proof of completion and a simple summary of the learning you found most valuable.

Bylaw Consultation

Stakeholder Consultation: Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) and Graduate Licensed Practical Nurse (GLPN) licensure

The CLPNS wants feedback from its Members about a proposed bylaw change through a consultation process. The opportunity to provide feedback is in place to ensure that relevant information is presented and that the information will clarify LPN practice.

Once an IEN meets all licensure requirements, except the CPNRE, the SALPN’s proposed change will allow them to apply for Graduate Licensed Practical Nurse (GLPN) licensure and practice under the direct supervision of an LPN, RN, or RPN.

Review the proposed change and provide feedback here

CEP Reminder

Licensure renewal is just around the corner! One way to prepare for your upcoming renewal is by adding the CEPs you have completed so far this year to your CLPNS Member Portal. Uploading your CEP supporting documentation is not mandatory at renewal, but do keep it handy if the CLPNS selects you to participate in the 2023 CEP audit!

Here are some tools that will assist you in determining and classifying your CEPs.
