CLPNS News

Changes to eligibility requirements

The CLPNS recently made changes to the number of practice hours required for annual license renewals. Previously, CLPNS members were required to log 1250 practice hours over a five-year period to be eligible for licensing in Saskatchewan. After reviewing the requirements in other jurisdictions, we have reduced the required number of practice hours over a five-year period to 1125.

In addition, if an LPN does not meet the hour requirements above, they are considered to have currency of practice if they completed one of the following within the previous three (3) years:

– a recognized practical nurse education program,

– a nurse education refresher program,

– a competency-based assessment, including any coursework,

– an approved Supervised Practice Experience or,

– the CPNRE or other recognized registration examination.

Pre-Authorized Payment

The Pre-Authorized Plan (PPP) is a pre-payment option allowing LPNs to pay their licensure renewal fee in advance, directly from their bank account. Enrolling in the program avoids having a large lump sum payment near the end of the year.
